Make no mistake about it: The Oxford Saloon in Snohomish is a charming place to be during daylight hours. We highly recommend fueling up for an afternoon of antique shopping with a Roasted Turkey sandwich or a classic Oxford Double Burger, which will no doubt be served with a smile by a friendly employee.

But what many tourists and passersby don’t know is that this place has a haunted history, and some of the events that transpired here were downright sinister. If you’re afraid of ghostly activity, steer clear after dark.

The Oxford Saloon was built in 1900, and for a decade, it was known as Blackman’s Dry Goods Store.

Matthew M / Yelp It then became a saloon, changing ownership several times over the years.

When the building was remodeled into a saloon, the owners added boarding rooms upstairs.

The Oxford Saloon Facebook Rumor has it that a prominent local businesswoman named Kathleen ran a brothel out of those rooms for years.

According to the current owner of the Oxford Saloon, Kathleen was decapitated in the clawfoot bathtub that still sits upstairs.

Jonathan Haeber / Flickr Kathleen’s ghost has been spotted upstairs many times, dressed in a purple dress with purple bows.

Another lady ghost that is often seen is Amelia, one of Kathleen’s girls who had been forced into prostitution.

The Oxford Saloon Facebook Amelia’s body was found curled up in her closet, and no one knows whether she committed suicide or was murdered.

If you’ve used the restroom at the saloon, you may have encountered Henry, a police officer who was murdered on the stairs.

Matthew M / Yelp Henry was stabbed to death, and it seems he never left. He seems to enjoy his ghosthood, pinching the ladies as they walk by.

These days, the Oxford Saloon is a gathering place for good food, cold drinks, and live music. But don’t think the ghost sightings have stopped.

The Oxford Saloon Facebook The owner, Brian Swanson, told Seattle Refined about an incident that occurred only a month ago. A band member was packing up her things and went downstairs to wash her hands, where she stayed for about 10 minutes. She came up laughing, talking about the nice bartender who told her all about the saloon’s history… only Swanson was the only one there at the time. The musician turned white, picked up her guitar, and left.
