…It traces its modern history back to 1916, when The Goodyear Company purchased 720 acres where they planned to begin blimp production.

The 444-acre lake on the site began to be known as Wingfoot Lake, a nod to Goodyear’s iconic corporate logo.

Wingfoot Lake State Park/Facebook The site was particularly valuable during the first World War, as Goodyear produced nine blimps for reconnaissance missions and more than 600 cadets received flight and associated training at the lake.

Goodyear developed the north shore of the lake for use by Goodyear employees.

In 2009, much to the delight of the public, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife purchased 690 acres at Wingfoot Lake and added it to the state park system.

Today, the lake’s scenic beauty is accented by the addition of playgrounds, a dog park, an archery range, boating opportunities, and even hiking trails.
