Every person from Connecticut is a little bit different, but there are some unspoken ideas that we all can agree on. You may not realize that you had so much in common with your fellow residents until you read this list of unwritten rules that most people from the Nutmeg state can agree upon.
- You are never too little to shovel snow.
Melissa Gutierrez/Flickr You have to start them young because if they stay in Connecticut, they will have a full life of shoveling snow.
- The drive to Dunkin’ Donuts will never take more than 5 minutes.
Mike Mozart/Flickr There are more than 1,000 Dunkin Donuts in the state of Connecticut so it never takes long to find one.
- Get to the packy before 9:00 p.m.
Mike Mozart/Flickr To be clear, the packy is the liquor store and in Connecticut it closes at 9:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday and at 5:00 p.m. on Sundays.
- It’s called a tag sale.
Dano/Flickr For whatever reason, here in the Nutmeg state we don’t have yard or garage sales, we have tag sales.
- The best pizza is in New Haven.
Krista/Flickr We all know where the greatest pizza can be found.
- Plan your apple picking trip for early September.
Brian Birke/Flickr The New England weather is unpredictable and snow could be on the ground by the end of the month.
- Beware of drivers from Massachusetts.
Michelle/Flickr Those drivers from the North have a nickname that Connecticutians are familiar with.
- Always shovel the roof.
Russ Allison Loar/Flickr If it’s more then eight inches deep then you have to climb up and clear the roof.
- The best diners are open 24 hours a day.
angela n./Flickr Diners that serve food 24/7 are the best because you can grab a bite to eat whenever you are hungry.
- Two weeks after gas prices drop, buy your heating oil.
Mark Turnauckas/Flickr Usually once the gas prices go down, then heating oil will follow and in the cold wintry months we use a bunch of it.
- Alligators and horses are out, whales are in.
