Located in the ex-mining town of Tonopah, this mining park will transport you back in time. Most of the equipment looks eerily untouched, as if just yesterday it was bustling with miners. This incredible park is unlike any other, and is definitely worthy of a visit.

Tonopah is a lovely town situated between Las Vegas and Reno. The town is steeped in fascinating history, beginning with the discovery of silver ore in the area around 1900. Today the population is only around 2,400 people, but Tonopah is one of the most interesting places in the state.

Located in the town is Tonopah Historic Mining Park. This park isn’t a reconstruction of an old mining camp—it is one. Within the park are actual remnants of the mining camp that started it all.

The park covers more than 100 acres which contains the original major mining companies that brought so much wealth to the area in the early 20th century.

All of the mining equipment and buildings are wonderfully preserved. It’s hard to believe they are more than a century old. The park lets you experience for yourself what life was like for a true silver miner.

You can get up close and personal to these amazing structures which have withstood the test of time. You can even walk down into an underground tunnel which leads you to a steel viewing cage. It’s truly like walking in the steps of history.

All of the buildings with their original equipment are open to visitors. Thanks to this mining camp, Tonopah’s mining district saw a massive amount of precious metals back in the day. Added up, all of the metals would total $1,200,000,000 today.
