Vermont is known to be a pretty quiet place, and that’s one of the reasons why we love it so much! Even some of the smaller towns are packed with things to do for example museums, farm to table restaurants, and don’t forget about those ski towns that are bursting at the seams during the winter. However, while even those towns retain their quintessential charm, there is one tiny and happy town in VT that is happy even without the hullabaloo. Perhaps this understated awesomeness is why everyone there is so darn happy.
The town of Lincoln in Addison County has 1,200 residents.

It is nestled at the base of Mount Abraham.
Flickr/Doug Kerr Although Abraham and Lincoln sound like a natural pairing, Lincoln isn’t named after the former president. Lincoln is actually named in honor of Major General Benjamin Lincoln, who had played a vital role in getting the militia to Vermont.
The folks here enjoy all the perks of their peaceful town, yet they are close to more populated areas if they’d like to venture out.

But do you really need to go anywhere when you have a general store?
Flickr/Doug Kerr After all, if they don’t sell it, you don’t need it.
The Long Trail runs along the crest of the Green Mountains near the eastern border of the town.

The fine folks of this mountain town host an annual town-wide yard sale.
