Jasperdo / Flickr You’ll find the trail by driving on Route 3, heading out of Bar Harbor and towards Otter Creek. The parking lot is just beyond Old Farm Road, but it’s easy to miss to keep a lookout!

The trail is now marked, so you’ll need to find the trailhead and you’ll be on your way.

About a mile down the easy, measured path, you’ll begin seeing the remnants of the Dorr Estate.

George Dorr is known as the Father of Acadia, as he played a pivotal role in adding land to the park.

George Dorr passed away in 1944, and Acadia took over ownership.

Over time, the mansion turned to rubble and was eventually burned down in a controlled fire.

From the remains of the mansion, you’ll see granite steps which lead to the water.

These steps are said to be haunted by the ghost of Dorr and his caretaker, who often follow hikers up and down the steps.

But, you’ll leave the friendly ghosts behind when you reach Compass Harbor.

The area is peaceful and quiet.
