In the south east corner of North Dakota is an unusually formed region known as the prairie pothole region. It is noted for its hills and natural “potholes” turned into lakes and ponds.

This vast prairie looks stunning from the sky and from the ground, with gently rolling hills as far as the eye can see. At one point, all of North Dakota was prairies like this.

The hundreds of ponds that speckle the grasslands in this area are absolutely gorgeous, too. Especially on calm days where the water acts like a mirror to the sky.

The lodge is near the Tewaukon National Wildlife Refuge, a place that preserves the spectacular views and allows for the native prairie animals - especially birds - to thrive.

This refuge is notable for being a place where upwards of half a million snow geese migrate through every year. The sight is out of this world and it makes a great time to take this vacation.
