Sunderland is a nature lover’s paradise. The town is home to the Mount Toby State Forest, where you can find stunning waterfalls and walking trails.

There’s no interstate within the town which helps preserve Sunderland’s peaceful vibe.

Pastoral scenes abound in this quiet hamlet. It was originally a farming community, and agriculture still plays a large part in day to day life for many locals.

That doesn’t mean it’s boring here though. The town holds annual fall festivals and a Memorial Day parade, and local businesses like the Blue Heron Restaurant in the town’s restored old town hall keep things interesting.

Sunderland is also home to the largest and oldest American sycamore tree on the East Coast. It’s affectionally nicknamed the Buttonball Tree.

This community also has a very low crime rate, making it a peaceful place to raise a family or just explore for an afternoon.
