There are some pretty impressive waterfalls in New Jersey. The Great Falls in Paterson is a personal favorite for its sheer magnitude but there’s one waterfall I enjoy even more. It’s hidden, peaceful and absolutely perfect.

You’d expect there to be a waterfall in a town named Little Falls…but where is it?

Drive all over town and you’ll never find it. There’s no sign, no parking lot, but you will see a fairly new archway reading “Morris Canal Preserve.”

Head down the stairs and you’ll find a 12-acre nature preserve, established in 2001. In recent years, hiking/biking trails have been added.

Take a short (around .02 miles) walk west along the Passaic River and you’ll find this gem!

Picturesque and easy to hike to, it’s hard not to love this little fall. Park along local roads (following local ordinances) and look for the entry to the Peckman Preserve across from the Valley National Bank on Main Street. Just minutes from Paterson’s Great Falls, you may want to check them out during your trip. Learn more about the Great Falls National Park by clicking here.
