Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales, a small town in Central Florida, is one of our prettiest landmarks. Despite its beauty, it is often overshadowed by the nearby major theme parks, and many tourists never even realize it’s there.
Bok Tower is one of Florida’s most celebrated attractions that dates back long before Central Florida became a theme park capital of the country.
Flickr/Trish Hartmann Bok Tower Gardens has had millions of visitors since it opened in 1929.
The 205-foot-tall tower features neo-Gothic and Art Deco influences, coquina stone, pink and gray marble, and beautiful colored tiles.
Flickr/Josh Hallett The tower is decorated with depictions of nature, especially birds and trees, and a large brass door depicting the Book of Genesis. All of these elements give the tower a magical fairy-tale appearance.
Bok tower also holds some of the world’s finest carillon bells.
Flickr/VisitCentralFL The tower employs its 60 bells to play its famous concerts twice a day, at 1:00 and 3:00 in the afternoon.
To top it all off, the tower is surrounded by enchanting gardens, perfect for a relaxing stroll.
Flickr/Ricardo’s Photography (Thanks to all the fans!!!) The gardens were planted on the summit of a hill called Iron Mountain, which is one of the highest points in Florida, rising 295 feet above sea level. This means that the gardens offer some lovely views of the scenic orange groves and rolling hills covering the landscape.
In the gardens, flowers, ferns, palms, oak, and pine trees surround a swan-filled reflection pool.
Flickr/Matthew Paulson More than 120 species of native birds also call this designated spot on the Great Florida Birding Trail home.
This tranquil sanctuary is the perfect place to discover Florida’s unique beauty, both natural and man-made, that can’t be found anywhere else in the world.
