Though it may not feel like it quite yet, spring is finally here. Wildflowers will be blooming in no time at all and there are plenty of places to enjoy their vibrant colors throughout New Jersey. A hike is a great way to take in the springtime scenery but long hikes aren’t for everyone. Not up for a lengthy trail? You needn’t walk far to enjoy the wildflowers on this one easy hike!
Many trails have wildflowers, but Tourne County Park has a designated wildflower trail.

The trail came about in 1961 when the Rockaway Valley Garden Club decided it was important to identify the native wildflowers growing in the park.

By 1972, the trail was officially dedicated by the Morris County Park Commission and named after its founder, Emilie K. Hammond.

At the trailhead, you’ll find a kiosk with information about the plants in bloom along with trail guides designed by garden club members.

There is a parking area adjacent to the trail and the trail is gated to keep out wildlife. An easy stroll, it is under a mile long.

After your short hike, enjoy a longer trail here. Tourne Park offers some pretty spectacular views.

The park offers activities like kayaking and cross-country skiing and is home to several giant glacial erratics (boulders).
