There’s a lot of wilderness in Wyoming, and it’s all spectacular. If you want to visit a spot that is especially unspoiled, however, we’d have to recommend the Gros Ventre Wilderness.

Considered part of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, this part of western Wyoming could be considered a little Eden. It’s home to river headwaters, and many species of wildlife live there, too. Unless you see it for yourself, it can be hard to believe that the Gros Ventre Wilderness is as splendid as it really is.

The Gros Ventre Wilderness is on the western side of Wyoming, near Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks and the Bridger-Teton National Forest.

With such auspicious neighbors, it should be easy to imagine how pristine and beautiful the Gros Ventre area is.

It’s a true wilderness area. Gros Ventre is closed to most kinds of vehicles, motorized or not. Even bicycles are prohibited.

The headwaters of the Gros Ventre River flow from the region, and Granite Creek feeds the Hoback River from there, as well.
