Schera’s Algerian-American Restaurant Website If the name sounds a bit foreign, that’s because this Iowa town was named after an Algerian resistance leader. Of course, this is a great place to get Algerian and North African food. Stop by Schera’s Algerian-American Restaurant at 107 S Main St., Elkader.
- Pulaski
Pulaski Corn Show/Facebook Count Pulaski gets credit for saving George Washington’s life and he also gets an Iowa town named after him. Be sure to attend the annual Pulaski Corn Show held in September.
- Lost Nation
Farragutful/Wikimedia This is the second town settled on the land, here. The first town was destroyed by disease in the mid-1800s. Lost Nation is named in honor of that town.
- Correctionville
Magicpiano/Wikimedia This town has the longest place name in the state. During your visit, be sure to spend some time in Little Sioux Park. The town also has a two-mile bike trail encircling it.

Google Maps This Iowa town was named for a local landowner named Ole Scar in 1904. Lake Mills just a few miles away, and it’s the closest town with a restaurant. Luckily, Teluwut Grille House & Pub is right on Main Street and it’s a great place to stop for a burger or ribs.
- Zwingle
Google Maps There are fewer than 100 Iowans living in Zwingle. It’s just 19 miles south of Dubuque, and worth the trip just so you can say you spent some time there. Strangely, you’ll drive through Key West between the two towns.
