Just about everything is better with a water view, which is why living in Maine is such a dream. From restaurants to hotels, there are lots of places to plant yourself if you want to gaze out upon Maine’s craggy coast. But, you might be surprised that some of the best views come from some surprising places. One example? This beautiful chapel in Boothbay Maine that’s simple, but oh-so-lovely!

Located on the Ocean Point loop on Shore Road in East Boothbay is a very special chapel.

It was built by the Reverend Lewis Wilson to honor his wife, Janet M. Wilson.

Today, the beautifully intricate but somehow still simple, chapel is named for Ms. Wilson.

The first service was held in August of 1917, just after construction was complete - making this past summer the 100 year anniversary!

The chapel is non-demoninational and guest ministers - both local and visiting - lead the worship services on Sundays throughout the summer and into the fall.

But the best part of this small chapel might be the immensely beautiful view you’ll have when walking out the front door.

The chapel is directly across from the Fisherman Passage waterway, which offers views of both Fisherman’s Island and Ram Island.

The views are panoramic and while standing on the front steps, it’s easy to imagine some of the special events that have taken place here over the course of 100 beautiful years.
