There are some downright gorgeous spots hidden across the Show Me State. One little slice of heaven can be found in rural Jefferson County and after you see these pictures, you’ll surely want to visit. This historic covered bridge is one of the few remaining in Missouri today, but the real treat is the beautiful robust red coloring of this historic treasure.

The stunning Sandy Creek Covered Bridge is one of only four remaining covered bridges in the state. Its bright red coloring makes this bridge one of the most stunning in the county.

Built in 1872, this bridge allowed local residents from Hillboro to access major roads that could take them all the way to St. Louis. By 1967, the state had taken over control and care of the bridge and by 1970 it was deemed a National Historic Landmark.

Today, the bridge is only open to pedestrian traffic to help preserve this little slice of heaven. The trail that runs through the bridge is a .2 mile out and back trail and is easily accessible.
