Oklahoma is home to some pretty bizarre roadside attractions. From the giant blue whale in Catoosa to the world’s largest peanut in Durant, everywhere you go in the Sooner State you can usually find something that will make you do a double take. But there’s one roadside attraction that looks like it fell out of the sky – The Winganon Space Capsule. The story behind this space capsule is just as odd as the attraction itself. Take a look:

If you drive between the small towns of Talala and Winganon, you’ll do a double take as you spot a NASA space capsule on the side of the road.

It’s called the Winganon Space Capsule and it’s just laying over there on the side of the road with a sign posted right next to it. It even has its own Facebook page.

So what’s the story? Well, it didn’t fall out of the sky, nor is it a real space capsule. It’s actually an old cement mixer that fell off a truck around 1959 and was never moved because of its weight.

Local artists have used it to paint different themes on it, but in 2011 it was transformed into a NASA space capsule.

To make the mixer look as real as possible, the artists not only used many paints, but added canning lids, a garden hose, broken reflectors and other household items.

It’s been featured in several local newspapers and people continue to enjoy this highway art, year after year. It has even made it on the front page of Reddit and is a favorite photo-op spot in the state.

It looks much better than in its previous days when it was a patriotic stars-and-stripes cement mixer. Check it out before NASA takes it back (or artists paint it again)!
