The popular cherry blossom festival debuted in 1998. It was a celebration, in part, of the 1,600 trees gifted to Philadelphia by Japan in 1926.

By 2007, the Japan America Society of Greater Philadelphia had planted approximately 1,000 more trees in Fairmount Park. Then, the organization focused on planting more trees throughout area parks.

The festival comes to an epic end on April 15 at the Horticulture Center in Fairmount Park on Sukura Sunday. The event, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., will feature live entertainment, a fashion show, and a cosplay area. Bring your beloved pets, all dressed up, to join the Prettiest Pet in Pink Parade.
