Beauty comes in many forms, but a certain form is hard to beat when it comes to bodies of water – the vibrant, deeply colored waters of a river or lake that makes you think of sparkling sapphires. North Dakota has quite a few naturally stunning lakes, ponds, rivers, and streams, but a few come out on top when it comes to being scenic. Here is one of the most gorgeous rivers in the state that looks simply amazing with its vibrant coloring:

This jaw-dropping river is located in northern North Dakota, spanning from the Canadian border all the way to the Souris River. Most people know it from a few large lakes that have formed along its path. It is the Des Lacs River.

The river is encompassed largely by the Des Lacs National Wildlife Refuge, located near Kenmare, ND. This refuge has great trails and other ways to experience the Des Lacs. Plus, it is the resting stop for thousands upon thousands of migratory geese and swans.
