Don’t worry, you won’t be eating barbecue with chocolate syrup or barbecue-flavored candy. This Texas shopt\ just happens to specialize in two foods that couldn’t be more opposite — but they do it flawlessly. Tejas Chocolate Craftory belongs at the top of your Texas foodie bucket list. Here’s why:

The Craftory began with bean-to-bar chocolate sold at the local farmers market. When sales really started to take off, they decided to open their own store.

Chocolate alone wasn’t going to cut it in order to make the business their livelihood, so the owners decided to add a cafe to the plan. And what better food to sell in Texas than good old fashioned barbecue?

The meat is certified USDA Prime Grade, seasoned with only salt & pepper and slow-smoked over post oak wood. This is one of their signature sandwiches, the “Bird & Bacon,” with smoked turkey, bacon, avocado, and a fried egg.

Offerings include brisket, pork shoulder, pork spare ribs, turkey, sausage, and, on Thursdays only, Tejas Pastrami. There are also a variety of side dishes and three distinct sauces —even though the meat is amazing on its own.

The chocolate is handcrafted from premium cocoa beans that are roasted low and slow in a brick oven to help the robust flavor develop. Feel free to watch the process when you come by.
