You’ll also get a side order of some serious New England vibes when you find it. Wiscasset is also home to some surprising attractions.

Local ship captain, Stephen Clough, made his way to France to rescue his daughter who, coincidently, was in the same prison. Clough’s wife even prepared their home for the queen. Legend says she nearly escaped but refused to leave without her son. The house can be seen across the river at Castle Tucker.

Built in 1807, Castle Tucker is one of the oldest in Maine.

And, just across from Castle Tucker is said to be the location of Marie Antoinette’s escape house prior to her execution in France.
