Now that Thanksgiving has come and gone, it’s officially the Christmas season, and here at Only In Hawaii, we couldn’t be more excited. While we love palm trees wrapped with twinkling lights, there is something about a real Christmas tree that makes your house supremely cozy. And since we don’t have fireplaces from which to hang our stockings, the least we can do to immerse ourselves in Christmas spirit is to head to Oahu’s Helemano Farms to pick up a traditional Christmas tree.
Located near Whitmore Village between Wahiawa and the Dole Plantation, Helemano Farms is home to thousands of trees and is the perfect place to buy your real Christmas tree this year, and every year.

Gates open on Black Friday at 10 a.m., so instead of setting your alarms early for crowded shopping in Honolulu, head out of town, grab coffee at the nearby Green World Coffee Farms, and pick out the perfect tree.

Grown right here at the farm, you won’t find real Hawaiian Christmas trees quite like this anywhere else across the islands. While many major stores boast real Christmas trees, they’ve been shipped from thousands of miles away, and, let’s be real, it’s nothing in comparison to the incredible memory of choosing your own Christmas tree and having it chopped down right before your eyes.
Helemano Farms - Oahu Christmas Tree Farm/Facebook Plus, let’s just remind you that Helemano’s trees will not harm the Hawaiian ecosystem. Imported trees, however, can harbor pests that are impossible to detect and can wreak havoc on the local environment.
The farm grows a variety of trees, including the Norfolk Pines Hawaii is known for, Leyland Cypress, Blue Ice, and Carolina Sapphires. Trees start at just $45 for less than five feet, and you’re sure to find the perfect tree for your home — trees at Helemano Farms can reach more than 13 feet in height!

You can even buy wreaths perfect for a table centerpiece or to hang on your front door.

The only thing missing from this quintessential Christmas activity? Cold weather. If you’re looking for winter weather, you’ll have to head to one of the few places in Hawaii you’ll find freezing temperatures and snow: Mauna Kea.
