The Basque people hail from Basque country that is located around north-central Spain and southwestern France. Basque cuisine is characteristic of this area and typically includes fish and meat grilled over hot coals, beans, vegetables, and bread. There is heavy use of olive oil, garlic, and paprika.

Basque food is quite popular in Nevada, particularly in the northern areas. While there are several Basque restaurants strewn around Carson City, Reno, Gardnerville, and other towns, if you want the most mouthwatering Basque food in Nevada, you must head northeast to Elko and the magnificent Star Hotel.

The Star Hotel is located at 246 Silver Street, on the corner of Silver and 3rd Streets in Elko.
