On June 30, 1774, long before the church was built , the nine members first gathered on Newfane Hill as the “Congregational Church of Christ.”

Early history indicates that the church initially met in the courthouse, but it wasn’t built until 1787 when Newfane became the shire town.

Nodding to the past, every year there is a service on the last Sunday of June on Newfane Hill, which is where the church was first gathered. There is also a service the last Sunday of July at the Brookline Church on Grassy Brook Road.
