New Trier, Minnesota, is a tiny town about 40 miles south of the Twin Cities. It has a population of about 112.

Though quiet, the town’s claim to fame is a church that beckons all who pass it with its beauty.

The Church of St. Mary’s is set atop a hill overlooking New Trier.

Built in 1909, the striking red building has been catching the eyes of passersby for more than 100 years.

It was built by German immigrants to New Trier after the original log church, built in the 1850s, decided to stay in the area.

The cornerstone of the church is still found inside the church. There is also a five-foot-tall statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary that dates back to the 1860s.

Outside, the churchyard is beautiful too. The statues and stones, surrounded by open fields, are a uniquely peaceful place to wander.

This historic church is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places. If you get the chance, visit. The beautiful red brick can be seen from a mile away.
