With a history that involves the British, it’s no surprise that we have a few castled located within our state lines. Some have been converted into local institutions, like libraries or museums while others have undergone face lifts to become family homes. Many are known, so we can’t exactly say they’re a secret (especially since we wrote this article a few years ago revealing our favorites) but we can divulge that one of them is on the market right now! Located on the rocky coast of this southern Maine area, it’s one of the most recognizable structures to those who grew up here.

Beckett castle was built by writer, poet and lawyer, Sylvester Beckett in 1871.

It was most recently owned by Nancy Harvey who purchased the castle in 1981.

If you’re familiar with the property is might be from hearing the many ghost stories that have come from inside its walls, passed down (and perhaps slightly embellished) from decade to decade.

Previous occupants have reported seeing framed photos fly off the walls, sheets be ripped off of beds and doors opening.
