The Emilie Ruecker Wildlife Refuge Is A Beautiful Underrated Rhode Island Destination

Rhode Island is admittedly a tiny state – so it’s easy to assume you’ve seen all that it has to offer. But even the littlest state holds its share of hidden places, and we’ve found one wildlife refuge in particular that far too few people know about, and we think you should pay it a visit.

The Emilie Ruecker Wildlife Refuge is tucked away on 50 acres of land in Tiverton, and is managed by the Audubon Society of Rhode Island.

It overlooks the Sakonnet River, and there’s a great 1.6 mile loop trail that you can walk to admire the views and the stillness of nature.

There are blinds around the refuge for viewing and photographing its wild birds, including Snowy Egrets, Ospreys, Glossy Ibris, and many more.
