North Dakota is well known for being the home of the International Peace Garden. It is the official state nickname and shown on every license plate, after all. But while many people know about that particular attraction, not as many people know about the unique town it’s in that has other points of interest that deserve some attention.

It’s the small town in North Dakota that has ended up as one of the coolest little places in the country, and here’s why:

The town of Dunseith is located right on the Canadian border and has a population of just under 775. When you come through here, you can see right away what they’re about on this welcoming sign:

The sign also mentions a W’eel Turtle at the top. What that is referring to is this massive turtle sculpture that says hello to everyone passing through.

The W’eel Turtle is named so since it its made out of thousands of tire rims. In fact, it is the biggest sculpture of its kind in the entire world.

But Dunseith has is so much more than just the things mentioned on the sign. While exploring this town, you’ll see just how charming it is.

A few pretty stone buildings among the local businesses, which includes a few fantastic eateries, can be spotted while strolling through it.

Just outside of the town is the historic Butte St. Paul. At this place, you can learn about its fascinating history and then take the winding trail up the hill.

As soon as you reach the top and see this mesmerizing view, you’ll see why it was so historically important and still beautiful today. It’s an endless horizon that allows you to see for miles!
