One of the most beautiful and unique hotels in the whole state is hidden a bit away on the edges of downtown Milwaukee. Renovating old warehouses is no longer an unusual occurrence, but what the folks at Brewhouse Inn & Suites have done to a formerly dilapidated building and rundown neighborhood is nothing short of stunning.
Where abandoned warehouses once stood is now a thriving neighborhood that continues to grow. And the centerpiece is this fun, funky hotel that incorporates the building’s former life in a way you’ve got to see to believe.
Pabst had been brewing beer in Milwaukee for 152 years when production ceased in this area in 1996. Despite being in viewing distance of downtown, this area that fronted the interstate a few blocks west of the city center fell into disrepair.

The buildings here are made of unique Cream City Brick, a Milwaukee product you won’t find elsewhere.

When you’re up in the hotel, the center points are the huge copper kettles that used to serve as the brewery’s brew kettles. They shining copper fits right in to the modern industrial vibe and make a stunning center point. You look down on them from every room level.

But what makes them extra special is that you can also see them in the lobby - they just look incredibly different. See those circles in the ceiling? Those are the same copper brew kettles, just from below. When you walk in the lobby they seamlessly fit into the decor and you almost don’t notice them until you head upstairs and realize what you saw in the lobby is just the very beginning.

The nicer rooms and suites here are called Baron rooms - a nod back to the beer barons that made Milwaukee famous. The topmost Baron suite comes with spectacular views out over the city from its rooftop patio.

The public spaces are filled with bits of the former brewery and a few murals that aren’t original but sure seem that way. The Brewhouse Inn & Suites is a truly beautiful, unique and interesting spot to stay in Milwaukee. You’re near downtown and all it has to offer, but this neighborhood offers some peace and quiet among the bustle of downtown.
