- Northpoint Custard
Northpoint Custard / Facebook
Northpoint Custard / Facebook First stop, Northpoint! This popular snack bar on Bradford Beach is swarmed every summer. They are closed during the colder seasons, but it’s well worth the wait. On top of creamy custard, they have some of the best burgers in town.
Northpoint Custard is located at 2272 N. Lincoln Memorial Dr., Milwaukee.
- Kitt’s Frozen Custard Drive-In
Akos A. / Yelp
Steven T. / Yelp For our next destination, we’ll head over to the north side and stop at the iconic frozen custard drive-in, Kitt’s! Kitt’s Frozen Custard has been around since 1950, and it still has a 50s vibe. Besides the famous custard, they have equally famous “jumbo” burgers.
Kitt’s Frozen Custard is located at 7000 W. Capitol Dr., Milwaukee.
- Murf’s Frozen Custard & Jumbo Burgers
Murf’s Frozen Custard & Jumbo Burgers in Brookfield / Facebook
Lisa A. / Yelp For our next frozen custard joint, we’re going to head out to the edge of Brookfield. Here you’ll find Murf’s, a small spot that’s been around since 1999. They have amazing jumbo burgers, and their frozen custard flavors are often unique like the frosted animal cookie custard pictured above.
Murf’s is located at 12505 W. Burleigh Rd., Brookfield.
- Gilles Frozen Custard
Gilles Frozen Custard / Facebook
Gilles Frozen Custard / Facebook Heading back east toward Wauwatosa, we’ll come across Gilles! Gilles Frozen Custard is the oldest frozen custard stand in Milwaukee. We’re surprised that it doesn’t have as much popularity as some of its contenders, but those that know Gilles know just how great it is. With frozen custard, shakes, and malts that are out of this world, you can’t go wrong!
Gilles Frozen Custard is located at 7515 W. Bluemound Rd., Milwaukee.
- Fred’s Drive-In
Ahnoki D. / Yelp
Steven T. / Yelp If we head farther into ‘Tosa, we will come across a very unassuming spot: Fred’s. Fred’s Drive-In is a small shop near the Washington Heights neighborhood, but don’t get confused by its size, their menu is huge! They serve up some of the best frozen custard, along with Chicago-style hot dogs, and much, much more.
Fred’s is located at 4726 W. Vliet St., Milwaukee.
- Leon’s Frozen Custard
Mr. Nixter / Flickr
Ben Husmann / Flickr Now we find ourselves at the world famous Leon’s. Leon’s will take any Milwaukeean back in time to summers lining up for a dish of the cold stuff. This neon stand is open year round, and is still owned and operated by the original family. Nothing says Milwaukee quite like Leon’s.
Leon’s Frozen Custard is located at 3131 S. 27th St., Milwaukee.
- Kopp’s Frozen Custard
William H. / Yelp
Matt L. / Yelp Last but certainly not least, we’ll find ourselves at Kopp’s on Layton. Kopp’s has a few locations, but this one just feels like home. Kopp’s is arguably one of the most well-known Milwaukee frozen custard places, and there is certainly a nostalgia to any cone, sundae, malt, shake, or dish of the creamy dessert you may have. There’s simply nothing like Kopp’s, and we can’t get enough.
Kopp’s Frozen Custard on Layton is located at 7631 W. Layton Ave., Milwaukee.
