If ever there was a way to gain the attention of locals and visitors alike, it certainly seems to work if you erect three giant (and cute!) cows at one end of your town’s Main Street. That’s what you’ll find in the North Carolina town of West Jefferson, located in Ashe County.
We’re not certain exactly when the cows came home to Main Street in this tiny town, but they’re a fixture now. They’re a landmark art exhibit at this point.

However, in reality, they’re really the mascots for Ashe County Cheese. The cheese making plant was opened more than 85 years ago by Kraft. Since then it’s sold a few times, and Kraft no longer owns it. Perhaps you’ve seen Ashe County Cheese at your local store. THIS is where the magic happens…

The process is fascinating and the magic doesn’t happen every single day. So if you have your heart set on arriving when they are making cheese, then you should check their calendar here.
