A brand new year means many things, but most importantly, you’ve got a blank calendar in front of you with plenty of room for travel. And since there’s nothing better than exploring your own state, we thought we’d recommend the top spots in Washington to see in 2018.
With 12 months in a year and 12 places on the list, you’ll stay happily busy until it’s time to ring in 2019.
- The Olympic Peninsula
LDELD / Flickr Thanks to the diverse beauty of this area, there are so many things to see. From the otherworldly beaches to the lavender fields in Sequim, this part of the state is absolutely magical.
- Walla Walla
Visit Walla Walla Facebook Considering Walla Walla was just ranked one of the best places in the world to visit in 2018, we recommend seeing it before it becomes as popular as Napa. Even if you’re not a fan of vino, there’s plenty to keep you busy here.
- Port Townsend
Robert Sanzalone / Flickr For a small town, Washington’s Victorian village has a lot going on. There’s the Rhododendron Festival in May, Washington’s longest-running summer jazz festival in July, and the Port Townsend Film Festival in September, just to name a few.
- Lake Diablo
junaidrao / Flickr Located in the North Cascades, Diablo Lake is so beautiful, it doesn’t even look real.
- Mt. Rainier National Park
Jeff / Flickr Mt. Rainier is the ultimate outdoor playground, offering the best natural scenery and some of Washington’s best hiking trails.
- Spokane
Ed Suominen / Flickr With Seattle getting more crowded by the day, we recommend heading to Spokane to get your city fix. And come hungry - the Lilac City’s restaurant scene is really heating up, and they’ve still got the classics, like Frank’s Diner.
- Winthrop
karen / Flickr If you’ve never been to our charming Old West town, don’t let another year go by without a visit. It’s as fun as it looks - plus, the Methow Valley is stunning.
- Long Beach
Jim Belford / Flickr Whether you go for a major event like the International Kite Festival or you just need some beach time in your life, the Long Beach Peninsula is the perfect place to go for a relaxing getaway. This is especially true if you stay at the Adrift Hotel and eat at Pickled Fish.
- Cameo Heights Mansion
Cameo Heights Mansion No detail is forgotten at this luxurious mansion in the middle of nowhere (actually, just outside Walla Walla). The elegant suites are themed, and the onsite restaurant serves food so tasty, you won’t mind being “stranded.”
- Thornewood Castle
Thornewood Castle Facebook Located in Lakewood, this majestic castle has a fascinating backstory and offers an unforgettable experience.
- The Columbia River Gorge
Glenn Scofield Williams / Flickr Take a drive down Highway 14, exploring the area around our beautiful river border between Washington and Oregon. Stop at the landmarks like Beacon Rock State Park, and spend some time in the charming little city of Stevenson.
- Leavenworth
Visit Leavenworth WA Facebook We’ll recommend Leavenworth time and time again, year after year… especially when it turns into our magical Christmas village.
This beautiful year will go by quickly. Make sure you take as many road trips as possible.
