It may not be possible to actually climb a mountain to heaven, but there is one place in West Virginia that the next best thing. The closest you can get is Red Spruce Knob in Monongahela National Forest. While you are up there, you can look across the landscape of this beautiful state in a way that’s just not possible anywhere else. You may be just a person anywhere else, but up there you get a glimpse through the eyes of a god.

Before you even reach the peak, you will follow a trail that seems like something out of a dream. A forest that looks like Earth, but seems just a little different, as if imbued with a touch of magic.

In the early morning, you can follow the trail through misty paths, as if you are walking through a cloud. Past the veil of mist, the forest opens up and leads you to points that are higher than anywhere else in the state.

At 4,863 feet, Earth is laid out before you, its peak colors like a kaleidoscope of hues: yellows, reds, oranges, greens and blues. They carpet the mountain peaks for miles in all directions - endless they roll, off toward the horizon.

Any time of the year, peak colors or not, you can be treated to a spectacular view from all directions.

In fact, you will be in a region where the views are amazing from many points in the area. This is the best nature has to provide - a world below you that is vast and beautiful. A little slice of heaven on Earth.
