When you’re looking to surround yourself with a more slow-paced lifestyle, rolling hills made up of beautiful rural scenery and gorgeous waterfront views, there’s no better region in New York to visit than the Finger Lakes. In the past we’ve mentioned how Skaneateles is where you can find the most perfect view of some of our state’s bluest water, as well as timeless and favorite small town restaurants that you won’t be able to dine at just once. But now that the holiday season has rolled around, it’s time to talk about how this scenic town turns into an absolute wonderland unlike any other that you have to see for yourself.

Enchanting even during our coldest months, the town of Skaneateles can be found out along the water in Onondaga County.

The small town is popular to visit during our warmer seasons, but you’ll find visitors from all around coming to enjoy the views of Skaneateles Lake even during the winter.

Turning into a Christmas wonderland each year, you’ll find everything surrounding the town’s main street covered in charming decorations.

One of our favorite decorations can be found out on the water, where a Christmas tree lies at the end of the town’s iconic pier.

Around this time of year things start to get quite enchanting, you’ll find horse-drawn wagons and carriage rides going through town as the snow begins to fall.

Amazing places like the Sherwood Inn look like something out of the page of a Christmas book, full of decorations that will make you feel right at home.

But one of the best reasons to visit Skaneateles now is because the town’s Dickens Christmas has finally begun!

Starting the day after Thanksgiving and running every Saturday and Sunday through December 24th, you’ll find 50 characters making their way through town!

With the Dickens Christmas comes along things like special shows at the local library, carriage rides, live music, characters roaming the streets and so much more.

And you also won’t want to miss out on the Mirbeau Inn & Spa’s special event, Dinner with Dickens and Friends on December 7th! You’ll get to enjoy a traditional dinner and also see Charles Dickens and Company perform.
