This incredible hiking trail follows the path of a former rail route, which was once used by the Jackson, Lansing, and Saginaw Railroad during the 1860s.

With several different trailheads to begin from (see below for details), the Saginaw Valley Rail Trail extends for a total of 11 miles between St. Charles and Saginaw.

The trail features seven bridges, each of which offers unique vantage points from which to observe birds and other species that call this area home.

From Marsh Creek to Swan Creek, there are plenty of chances to observe water-bound flora and fauna. You might even spot a fisherman or two.

To access the trail, park at one of three lots. These areas sit at 6225 Stroebel Road and 2998 Van Wormer in James Township, along with 401 East Water Street in St. Charles.
