March has officially arrived and many of us Oregonians are ready for spring. As the seasons change, we can’t help but get excited about warmer weather and the chance to see colorful meadows of blooming wildflowers. Here in Oregon, the season for wildflowers can be gloriously long. Flowers typically start blooming in March and are here until late July and early August, though higher altitude regions may have to wait a few weeks longer as the last of the snow melts away. There are plenty of great hikes in the Beaver State that offer prime wildflower viewing. One of the most enchanting is Rowena Plateau Hike in the Columbia River Gorge. Check it out:

The Rowena Plateau Trail is a beautiful 2.5-mile wildflower hike that will take you past breathtaking views and vibrant fields of flowers.

To reach the trail, you’ll make your way to one of most iconic viewpoints in the Columbia River Gorge – Rowena Crest.

The adventure begins before you even reach the trailhead. The curvy drive up to Rowena Crest is famous for its hairpin turns.

Once you make it to the top, follow the broad trail that leads from the parking lot.

In spring, this area comes alive with spectacular wildflower displays.

The easygoing hike slopes gently downwards, leading past gorgeous views and colorful fields of wildflowers.

After about 1/10 of a mile, a side trail branches off to the right and up to a great viewpoint overlooking the Gorge.
