Remer, located in Cass County north of Brainerd, has a population of only 370!

All in all, this town is small but charming. It may look like your average town, but it does have a strange claim to fame.

In 2009, a Bigfoot sighting helped to put Remer on the map by drawing national attention. The town was featured on the Animal Planet’s Finding Bigfoot.

The sighting occurred on a rainy night on October 24, 2009 in the woods just north of Remer. It was spotted by two hunters who had set up a camera to spot deer.

After the sighting, the town of Remer earned itself a nickname: the Home of Bigfoot.

Though the sighting was nearly 10 years ago, Bigfoot’s footprint still lingers. There are many Bigfoot photo opportunities around town.

Even local businesses take part, with plenty of Bigfoot-themed decorations and events all around town.

There are even annual Bigfoot celebrations in Remer. For example, the Bigfoot Music Festival features local musicians.
