We all know that spring is bluebonnet season here in Texas, but not everyone is aware that tulips also abound this time of year. Texas Tulips, a farm in Pilot Point (near McKinney), is filled with thousands of the vibrant flowers just waiting to be picked. See for yourself:
The story of Texas Tulips began more than 40 years ago in Holland when Piet and Afra Koeman started a horticultural farm specializing in tulips. Today, their son and his wife operate the first tulip field in Texas.

It’s only $5 per person to enter the field and $2.50 for each flower you pick. They’ll even wrap your tulips in pretty tissue paper and put gel on the stems for preservation!

More than 90 varieties of tulips in nearly all the colors of the rainbow grow here — but not all at once. The types in bloom at any given time depends on what point during the season you visit. April is usually the last month the tulips are ripe for the picking, so you’d better hurry!

There are concession stands and a hay maze for kids, so you can easily make Texas Tulips an all-day event. You’ll need at least a few hours, if not more, to walk through all the aisles and put together the perfect bouquet.
