There are some things that are just specific to living in New Orleans. We’re so lucky that we get to live in such a unique city with so much history and culture, that we maybe take it for granted. The following are 9 things that only true New Orleanians will admit to. How many are you guilty of?
- Having “that one waiter” at their favorite restaurant.
John Hyun/Flickr It’s not uncommon to have one particular waiter at restaurants like Galatoire’s, Antoine’s, Arnaud’s, or Commander’s Palace. Generations of families have dined at these establishments being served by the same waiter for years.
- You’ve channeled your inner NFL wide receiver skills to catch a throw at Mardi Gras.
Mike Connor/Flickr And you didn’t even spill your drink in the process.
- Drank a hand grenade in the French Quarter.
Wally Gobetz/Flickr And liked it.
- Asked for a go-cup while leaving a bar.
Bart Everson/Flickr So sad that you can’t do this in other states.
- Having a preference: sidewalk side or neutral ground side?
K-Man/Flickr Sidewalk side.
- You’ve gotten to a parade insanely early to claim your spot.
Martin Deutsch/Flickr Usually with one of these ladders.
- You’ve danced at a funeral.
Darrell Miller/Flickr It’s a celebration of life, and second lines are a part of New Orleans tradition.
- You had a second line at your wedding.
Darrell Miller/Flickr Or, if you aren’t married yet, you plan on having one.
- Scheduled major life events around football season.
Todd Martin/Flickr We’ve all had that one friend that scheduled something during a major game. Why?!
