Most people don’t know the best kept secret of Lake Lure, North Carolina is the flowering bridge that crosses Rocky Broad River, or that is has multiple little fairy habitats hidden within it’s colorful plantings. From 1925 to 2011, the Rocky Broad River bridge was bustling with vehicular traffic. But all that came to an end when a new bridge was created to replace the old.

That’s precisely when some community volunteers banded together and started planning a bridge park that would wow the masses.

TripAdvisor/Ron P The bridge encompasses 150 feet in length and it is 20 feet wide. This is no small park. It’s filled with colorful, fragrant blooms and is the culmination of hours of love and devotion from the volunteers of the non-profit that maintains the park.

The sheer size of the park results in several different areas and themes featured within.

Some take the fairy theme to extreme, like this summertime fairy garden that’s really a fairy beach — complete with sand!

Since this is the land of Sasquatch (lately!), no fairy garden would be complete without a Bigfoot imprint to scare off would-be fairy intruders, of course.

TripAdvisor/Jesse C You may get an extra chuckle out of the fairy quarry. You can see it, right?

TripAdvisor/Brittany D If not, then this seasonal fairy display should be rather obvious. What fairy wouldn’t want to live in a pumpkin house — even if only for the month of October?

All of the fairy displays are quite darling and draw you into their whimsical little world. But just in case… the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge has a people-sized fairy door just for you.
