The leaves are going to be at peak color in mid-to-late October, so you have about a month to make your fall plans. I’m going to suggest a day trip to a small town hidden away in the Ouachita Mountains go on that fall itinerary. You’re going to want to walk around Mena, and you’re going to want to visit the surrounding forest and the state park situated there as well.
You can get directions to Mena by clicking here.

The downtown area of Mena is also a total delight, and since there are trees all around, strolling through town offers its own appeal.

Trains are an important part of Mena’s history, and you’ll find a museum dedicated to that history in town.
