While there are officially over five weeks left of autumn, it’s beginning to feel a lot like winter. I’ve covered so much this season, from fall day trips to picturesque pumpkin patches, but I haven’t yet covered one town in New Jersey that packs all the fall you could ever want into four square miles. If you haven’t enjoyed it yet, be sure to put Long Valley on your calendar for next year.
For starters, the community of Long Valley is absolutely gorgeous in the fall (and all year).
Image/Sky High Pics/Vimeo It sits in the shadows of Schooley’s Mountain and comes alive with color each autumn. A peaceful place and one of New Jersey’s safest towns, it’s the perfect mix of pastoral and vibrant.
Ort Farms is the ultimate fall destination.
Facebook/Ort Farms From the end of September until the start of November, the farm offers a corn maze, pumpkin picking, hayrides, pony rides and more. While the season ended on November 1st, the farm still has something to offer - fresh, delicious fruits and vegetables. Their farm stand will be open until Christmas. They’ve got the most mouthwatering pie available and a program that lets customers donate one to a family in need for Thanksgiving. Find Ort Farms at 25 Bartley Road.
Three words…cheese cave tours.
Facebook/Valley Shepherd Creamery Long Valley has its own incredible creamery and, during fall months, you can tour their cheese cave. You’ll start by learning all about sheep shearing, milking and cheese making and you’ll end up hopping on a wagon to witness the cheese aging process for yourself. If you can’t wait until next fall, visit in the springtime for shearing and lambing tours. Or, visit now for gourmet cheese baskets and more at the Sheep Shoppe. You’ll also want to follow Valley Shepherd Creamery on social media to keep up with their classes and special events. You’ll find them at 50 Fairmount Road, Long Valley.
Pub tours and pumpkin ale.
Yelp/Megan S. Pub tours run until the end of October, pumpkin ale is available now. You’ll also enjoy fantastic burgers and a full menu of pub favorites and upscale American cuisine. There’s live music on select nights and a special Thanksgiving buffet. Long Valley Pub is just one of several wonderful restaurants in the charming Restaurant Village (located at 1 Fairmount Road).
If all this doesn’t convince you that Long Valley is New Jersey’s perfect fall destination, check out the breathtaking video below, shot by Sky High Pics.
