On the prowl for a unique, outdoor adventure? You’re in luck, especially if you live in Western Pennsylvania. For something out of the ordinary – that includes old ruins – pack up the car for a trip to Linn Run State Park.
Just over an hour’s drive from downtown Pittsburgh, Linn Run State Park spans 612 acres and features a lush evergreen forest.

The park attracts outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers with its year round activities. Horseback riding, snowmobiling, camping, wildlife watching and, of course, hiking are among the permitted activities.

For an easy and intriguing hike that will take you past ruins, embark on the Flat Rock Trail. At only half a mile, the trail is popular with hikers and dog walkers.

Along the trail, you’ll come to the remains of a building and a chimney, formerly the McGinnis Rod and Gun Club. The building, constructed prior to World War II, was used as a hunting lodge.
