Hiking season is upon us and Clevelanders are gearing up for adventure throughout the warmer months. Locals know that the parks throughout our region are breathtaking, but the Cleveland Metroparks stand out as the most spectacular natural spaces in Northeast Ohio. One of the most beautiful hikes, however, is hidden in the southernmost reservation of the part district:
Welcome to Hinckley Lake!
Michelle/Flickr Tucked away in Hinckley Reservation between West and East Drives is a spectacular trail that encircles a lovely lake.
This 90-acre lake is the largest inland lake in the Cleveland Metroparks.
Cleveland Metroparks/Facebook This pretty place is fueled by the Rocky River Watershed, and it is filled with a fascinating variety of native fish. Largemouth bass are especially plentiful in this lake, and many local fishermen have captured some spectacular specimens.
Hinckley Lake Loop Trail, a 3.4-mile hike, encircles the lake and takes visitors through a natural wonderland.

Though the hike is breathtaking, locals also love to boat and fish on the water.

Hikers will encounter frequent benches along the trail, allowing them the opportunity to sit and take in the scenery.
Michelle/Flickr If you bring your pup for a walk with you (which you totally should - this terrain is enthralling to adventurous spirits of all species), the benches provide an opportunity to fuel up with water and take a quick break.
This lovely destination is just one of many incredible attractions in the park, but it is undoubtedly the most spectacular place to be at dusk.
Cleveland Metroparks/Facebook Though Whipp’s Ledges and Worden’s Ledges are also lovely, they’re a bit dangerous to visit as darkness is stretching its wings across the region. The lake here and its adjacent Spillway Swim Area are both near the reservation’s main road, and the clearly defined trail makes it hard to get lost.
