Temperatures in Missouri are dangerously low. In fact, it’s so cold in Missouri that our temperatures are lower than those found in Antarctica. These frigid temperatures are the result of a deadly arctic blast that has once again gripped the Show Me State. Here is what you need to know about the arctic blast, how it has affected the state, and how it will continue to affect us.

Over the weekend, temperatures dropped rapidly. Many Missourians experienced mild weather this week with temperatures rising to 60 degrees.

However, a cold front swept across the state dropping temperatures nearly 40 degrees in hours. Temperatures have remained in the teens with bitterly cold wind chills.

Much of the state will see snow over the holiday and temperatures in many places will hit zero. In St. Louis, with the wind chill, temperatures will feel like -8 degrees. Meanwhile, at the Belgrano Station in Antarctica, temperatures will remain in the 20’s.

With weather this cold, it’s important to take precautions when venturing outside. You’ll want to wear proper winter gear and keep a winter weather emergency kit in your car. Keep an eye on wind chill advisories and make sure to prepare accordingly to stay warm.

To check to see if a wind chill advisory or warning is in effect, you can visit the National Weather Service website. Winter in Missouri is always unpredictable, so you can expect temperatures to rise again but don’t count out the chance of frigid weather returning before winter is over.
