A state where agriculture plays a huge role, it should come as no surprise that Mississippi is home to several impressive farm-to-table restaurants. However, one of the most unique is Kermit’s Outlaw Kitchen in Tupelo. Far from your typical farm-to-table eatery, this one takes a “rough around the edges approach” to the popular dining concept, focusing on hearty dishes and wood grilled styles of cooking. Take a look:

Kermit’s Outlaw Kitchen, also known as K.O.K., is located in a 140-year old building in historic downtown Tupelo.

Rachel L./Yelp The building once housed Kermit’s Bakery, which is where the restaurant got its name. A local staple, the bakery supplied the town of Tupelo with breads and pastries — including making birthday cakes for Elvis Presley.

Described as an “ingredient, information, and farm-based restaurant,” K.O.K. focuses on using ingredients that have been truly locally sourced.

Cows, pigs, chickens, vegetables, fruits, honey, butter, and grits — are just a few of the items that come from local producers.

The Neon Pig is K.O.K.’s sister restaurant. Described as an “old school butcher shop,” it processes all of K.O.K’s cows, pigs, and chickens, as well as curing the eatery’s bacon, sausage, and country ham.

Megan T./Yelp According to K.O.K. owner and chef Mitchell McCamey, “The Pig is the foundation for everything we do here. Having our own butcher shop allows us to source truly local ingredients and that has been revolutionary for us.”

As if it couldn’t get any better in terms of quality and freshness, there’s an open kitchen so you can actually watch as your food is prepared.

As far as the menu goes, it’s constantly changing.

Because the eatery uses only the freshest ingredients, the menu is always being adjusted to reflect what local farmers have available.

However, it’s sure to always feature a tasty variety that includes everything from steaks and burgers to seafood and barbecue.

Kermit’s Outlaw Kitchen/Facebook Unlike many farm-to-table eateries, this one features plenty of “carnivore-centric” dishes.

Perhaps you’re looking for something a bit lighter? No problem; the menu includes plenty of appetizers and specialty drinks.

A place “where Mississippi farms meet Mississippi tables,” K.O.K. practically guarantees one of the tastiest (and freshest) dining experiences in the state.
