Hoye-Crest is the highest peak in Maryland. So what does Maryland have to do with a website dedicated to West Virginia? Well, this particular peak is only accessible from Eglon, West Virginia.
At 3,360 feet, Hoye-Crest is the highest peak in Maryland, but you can only reach it through a trail that starts in West Virginia.

The trail can be found south of Silver Lake on U.S. Route 219. Certain parts of the trail are privately owned, but the owners still allow visitors. Once you find the mile long trail be sure to follow the orange blazes, which will eventually lead you to the peak.

Once you reach the peak, you will find a sign commemorating the spot, along with a picnic table and a mailbox stuffed with certificates. Take one to prove you’ve made it to the top.

From there, you will get a spectacular view from the peak overlooking the hills of Maryland.

Just off the main trail is a short rocky trail which leads to the state border of West Virginia and Maryland, which is indicated by a stone obelisk.
