What many don’t know is that this spot was a prisoner of war camp during the Civil War. Approximately 3,000 people died here, mostly from poor living conditions while being held prisoner.

Some of the dead are said to still roam the park. Camp here overnight and you may hear unexplained sounds and awake to find boot prints outside of your tent.

The lighthouse is said to be the most haunted spot. Visitors who have explored here at night have spotted ghostly men wearing Civil War era garb. The men have been seen sitting on the porch, peeking out of the windows, or even pacing back and forth in front of the lighthouse as if they’re keeping watch.
