I had to visit the town of Shawnee a few months back and I was in the mood for a good burger. I asked the locals where I should go and EVERYONE gave me the same recommendation – Hamburger King on Main Street. The burgers were ridiculously good and you’ll definitely want to try them. Take a look:

The first Hamburger King was opened in 1927 by George Macsas in Bristow, Oklahoma. It was instantly a popular place for burgers in town and you could even honk for service.

Another location was opened by Macsas’s brother, Joseph Macsas, at 322 East Main Street in Shawnee. It remains the only operating Hamburger King in the state.

The dining room is a 1950s-style theme that houses several booths for patrons. Pick a seat and take a look at all the menu offerings.

You’ll quickly notice the phones hanging on the wall at each booth. It’s a fun and unique way of ordering. Pick up the phone, press the red button and order up. The wait staff will then serve your food and drinks.

They’ve been pretty famous in the Sooner State for their burgers and once you taste them, you’ll see why.

The buns are fresh and soft and the meat is juicy and full of flavor. Plus, the cheese is perfectly melted and layered on all the goodies.

They also have award-winning chili and onion rings. And if you’re looking for something lighter, try the chef salad with house made ranch or jalapeño ranch.

Don’t leave without trying a slice of their homemade pie. The flavors rotate, but you can always count on them being fresh and delicious. (Pictured below is the monkey tail pie.)
