Maryland’s westernmost county is Garrett County. If you’ve never been out this way, you’re in a for a treat. Wisp Resort is known for ski slopes, but it offers a lot more as well.

Wisp Resort is also home to the Mountain Coaster, which whips and zooms among the mountain. This is a great activity any time of year, that most ages can enjoy.

One of the most magnificent attractions in Garrett County is Deep Creek Lake. This is Maryland’s largest lake and it’s great for boating, fishing, and swimming.

For more water sports, head to Adventure Sports Center International. This man-made course offers kayaking, rafting, and more, and it’s full of fun!

After resting, awake and explore the area parks and hiking spots. Swallow Falls State Park is known for the beautiful Muddy Creek Falls, pictured below.

The park features other waterfalls and rapids throughout the area. This place is a must-see!

Although Swallow Falls State Park tends to get all of the glory, don’t miss out on the other area parks as well. New Germany State Park is a good one, and the water views here are stunning.

If you prefer your exploring on the more rustic side, check out the area forests. Savage River State Forest has incredible views among nature and offers a more primitive camping experience.

Or hike to Maryland’s highest point, known as Hoye Crest. The views along the way are wondrous and you’ll feel quite accomplished when you reach the top.

Lastly, don’t miss out on all of the outdoor history. Casselman River Bridge State Park is one such spot where you can step into the past. The scenery here can’t be beat.
