What exactly are “the boonies?” It’s simply an expression that means in the middle of nowhere. New Jersey doesn’t have too many restaurants located far from civilization but we do have a few. One restaurant in a rural area worth visiting is Fortescue’s Bayside Grill.

Fortescue’s Bayside Grill is (unsurprisingly) located right on the Delaware Bay.

Yelp/Matteo G. Fortescue is a small, unincorporated community with just under 400 residents. Known as a fantastic spot for fishing, the town has just a handful of restaurants, beaches, a church, post office and not much else. It is surrounded on all sides by wildlife refuges or water. The town is nearly ten miles from the nearest cities of Bridgeton and Millville.

You really can’t get more “waterfront” than this.

Facebook/Fortescue’s Bayside Grill The views are spectacular, especially at sunset. Lucky for us, it’s open until 9 p.m., Thursday - Saturday. The rest of the week, the eatery serves both breakfast and lunch. It only opened this year, but it’s already got rave reviews. You’ll find a very casual atmosphere and a clean, simple interior with beachy charm. It serves up American favorites that don’t disappoint.

It’s a great spot for comfort food.

Facebook/Fortescue’s Bayside Grill Reviewers rave about the crab cakes and home fries, in particular. Breakfast options include pancakes, mouthwatering French Toast, omelettes and pork roll (sandwiches and wraps). Lunch offerings include soups, salads and sandwiches like the Cajun Chicken Panini. For dinner, you’ll find grilled salmon, New York strip steak and more. There’s also a kids’ menu for little eaters.

The service is also spectacular! The friendly staff will make you feel right at home. Find Fortescue’s Bayside Grill at 102 Delaware Avenue, Fortescue. For another remote restaurant in New Jersey, check out the Walpack Inn.
